Prof Francesco Salvo is the scientific director of SPARK-Bordeaux, a role he has held since the program's early days at the University of Bordeaux. He shapes the program's scientific direction, chairs project selection, and anchors SPARK-Bordeaux's connection to the translational research community.

Alongside his SPARK role, he is Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Bordeaux and Director of the Bordeaux Regional Pharmacovigilance Center. He coordinates Eu2P, the European training programme in Pharmacovigilance and Pharmacoepidemiology, and serves as Vice President of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP).

Originally from Italy, he completed medical studies at the University of Messina and specialized in Medical Toxicology before moving to Bordeaux in 2008. As a researcher in the INSERM BPH AHeaD team, his work focuses on drug safety methodology, particularly signal detection and public health impact assessment.
